TEXT: Galatians 2:20
PREACHER: Pastor Bodunrin Timothy
Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
KJV 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Introduction
Life in Christ offers us access to something profoundly transformative: newness of life. In Galatians 2:20, the Apostle Paul reveals the essence of this life—a life that is no longer centered on the self but on Christ, a life that reflects God’s love, grace, and power.
This sermon explores how we can access this newness of life
Crucifixion with Christ: Dying to the Old Self
Paul begins by declaring, “I have been crucified with Christ.”
What it means: Our old sinful nature, with its selfish desires, pride, and rebellion, is put to death when we accept Christ as Lord and Savior.
The process:
This crucifixion is both spiritual and practical. It means turning away from sin and letting go of anything that hinders our relationship with God.
Romans 6:6 reminds us, “Our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with.”
Resurrection with Christ: Christ Lives in Me
Paul continues, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”
What it means: Christ’s indwelling presence becomes the source of our strength, guidance, and purpose. We are no longer bound to live by our limited human abilities but empowered by His Spirit.
Just as a dead seed springs to life when planted, so does our life transform when Christ takes root in us (John 12:24).
John 12:24
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Living by Faith: The Daily Walk of New Life
Paul emphasizes, “The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God.”
Faith as the foundation: This new life is sustained not by our own efforts but by trust in Jesus’ finished work on the cross.
