THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC AND JACOB

TEXT: Matthew 22:32

PREACHER: Pastor Bodunrin Timothy

Matthew 22:32

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is not the God of the dead but of the living.

Jesus responded to the Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. They diplomatically asked Jesus who the husband of the woman who has seven husbands would be in the resurrection. Jesus’ response was profound in his statement as he made reference to Exodus 3:6 where God himself affirmed to be the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

HOW DO WE KNOW THAT OUR GOD IS THE GOD OF THE LIVING?

God’s Relationship with His People is Ongoing [Rev. 14:3]

Rev 14:3

3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

The Resurrection is Sure [Luke 20:38]

Luke 20:38

38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

He Gave Hope of Eternity [John 14: 2-3]

John 14:2-3

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

The subject matter at hand this month is that of living a sanctified life. Our anchor text gave us a preview of what transpires in the lives of our fathers; Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that guaranteed their undisputable transgenerational greatness…..the answer lies in their total obedience to every commandment of God.

Living a life of total and continuous obedience to God is what guarantees our sanctified living. Proverbs 9:10, Job 36:11

Proverbs 9:10

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
